Hi.. I realise this is an older post, and you may have found solutions... but, one way of controlling the ATV from your MAC (via iTunes) is to enable AIRTunes on both your iTunes and ATV - once this is done any track you play in iTunes, will also play on your ATV (complete with album art etc).
Hope this helps :)

I'm trying to convert through a Fusion Shared Folder on an external FIreWire HDD (HFS+) that has 40GB+ of free space.
The converter would need about 13GB but keeps complaining it hasn't got enogh space on the destination.
Looked at the logs, nothing enlightening.
Help welcome!

At long last I've got my camera configured and set up. Here are things I found about the BL-C131A and OSX:
- connect the camera to your actual router, not just a hub

- you can do all the camera configuration yourself by pointing your browser at 192.168.1.253

- the camera refuses to recognize WPA/WPA2 keys that have non-alphanumeric characters. If you router and other devices have keys with such characters, run it through the WPA hex translation and enter the key as the hex string.

- the Panasonic website has a document that describes the camera's CGI interface. This can be useful in doing stuff to the camera and avoiding the camera's built-in GUI.

This is quite a workaround, but it worked for me with Word:

Make an elliptical selection in Preview.
Copy To Clipboard
In Preview, select File, New From Clipboard
Save the newly created file as a png
In Word, select Insert, Picture, From File
Select the png you saved
For me that brought in just the round part, no black.

hello,

great tips, thanks.

The question I have is regarding using the select tool in preview.

When I open my image in preview, when I use the rectangular option in select, I copy it and then paste it in powerpoint or word and it's just fine. When I use the elliptical or even lasso option, when I do the copy and then paste, it comes into the application with black around the part of the image I selected so that it still forms a square.

I just want the area I selected...is there a way around this?

Thanks much!

Mike

Comment on The Genius Bar by Grace

4 years ago my boyfriend switched to Mac. That was not his first Mac though (his first owned computer was a PowerBook back in 1995.) but he had become a regular Windowz user after he bought a Sony Vaio laptop for his second computer. So after his Sony Vaio became very slower and crashed too often, I convinced him to switch back to a Mac. At the time he wanted a very basic laptop, so I told him an iBook would suit his needs. So we went to Apple at SoHo NY, got him an iBook running Panther, with his faculty discount, he was happy that he's got the good deal with it.

Unfortunately, unlike my Titanium PowerBook G4, his iBook has been problematic since the first few month of use. Thankfully he has an Apple store nearby in Columbus OH, so he have been visit their Genius Bar once every 4-6 month. I feel sorry for him because his experience with iBook just hasn't been as smooth as I expected, although he did seem to like the easy-of-use and the overall experience on OS X.

A year ago, after I updated his iBook into Tiger, suddenly the laptop became really unstable. He has been visit the GB so often that every genius in that store knew him by his first name. At one point he just had back his iBook from Apple a few days ago before it suddenly refused to boot anymore. He got it so frustrated to a point that he told me he thought maybe it's time to switch back to PC! At that moment I told him that he must not give up, because iBook has been known for many problems, so unfortunately he owned one, plus he had to admit Apple provide very good customer services he just couldn't get it from anywhere else. So I suggested that maybe he should try once more before he gave up on Apple!

Well he did! And he's glad that he did too! That day when he showed up at GB again, the genius who helped him a few days before recognized him and felt really sorry for him. After my boyfriend told him that he couldn't reboot the iBook anymore, the genius said he felt so bad that iBook has caused way too much trips for my boyfriend, that he seriously consider to give him a brand new MacBook in exchange, that he just needed to verify the idea with his manager first! So after the guy got his manager's permission, they gave my boyfriend a brand new MacBook (!), and a whole service with the Mac to Mac files transfer, if they could retrieve his files from iBook's HD in the first place. Fortunately they have retrieved all his files back, and all he needs to buy was a new 3 yr. AppleCare plan. Within a couple of hours, they made his new MacBook ready for him.

When my boyfriend called me from their store and told me the good news, I was really happily surprised that they gave him a bread new laptop, but I also was not too surprised because I had same kind of service with my 3G iPod that just won't shut down after I just bought for 4 month. I was truly full of joy to hear that Apple did their best not to loose him as a Mac user, by reassure him with their exceptional customer support, that no other companies today could ever match that high level of after-sale supports like Apple had.

SSH works great for me, thanks. But, if I have the option, why not go all the way with Apple Remote Desktop (ARD)? That's full Mac access, not just the shell.

Hi Murphy,
I was curious (especially since I'm terrible at javascript) if you knew a way to tweak your script to change your current window to match those dimensions and specifications and not a new pop up window. I've been playing with it and I really like using my gmail with it that way... Just curious!
