Finding Your Path

Murphy MacThe path of a folder tells you exactly where it’s located on your disk. Maybe you’re an MS Windows user who configured the OS to display the path in every Explorer window. But what about the Mac?
On the Mac you can hold Command and click the little icon at the top of each Window to see the current folder’s path. But that little icon can do other things too - and not just in Finder.

Inspector? Never heard of it.

Murphy MacHave you ever used Get Info panels in OS X and found you have to close each one and then open another one? That can get old.

Luckily, there’s a semi-hidden feature on your Mac called the Inspector. It looks just like the Get Info window, but it dynamically updates as you select different folders and files. Take a look at the Snippet and see how to call up the Inspector.

Rearrange the Sidebar

Murphy MacMovies, Music, Pictures - they’re all on the Sidebar the first time you turn on your Mac. Along with some other stuff. But there’s room for more.

You can make changes to the Sidebar by going to Finder, Preferences. But you can also drag items on and off the Sidebar, and easily change their order.

Murphy keeps links to key folders, applications, and files on his Sidebar. Click here to see how.

Close 9 Windows with a Click

sbWindows tend to get left open. You’re working away, clicking a mile a minute, and the trail starts to pile up.

You could use Command+W to close each of the windows, but that could take a while. You could hunt down the red close button on each window, that would probably take longer.

So try the option button on your keyboard. Just hold it down when you click the red button. Every window in the application will close with a single click.
